Summer Holiday and Wedding Looks

Hello Loves!

It’s been a long week, but a good one I guess. First the Fourth of July then a wedding and today is my Papa’s birthday so I was up early ready to head to my hometown.

I thought I would share some of my outfits from this week as an introduction to the post about my ‘Spoonie Emergency Kit’ that gets me through these hot(and cold) Southern days.

I live in Texas unfortunately, so it’s pretty hot here–and humid. Having to be outside in the sun and the heat is awful in and of its self, add having a few chronic illnesses and you’re practically living a nightmare. But I have a few tricks up my sleeve, and a wardrobe that gets the job done.

For the Fourth I opted for a crop top, shorts and a flannel. I knew I’d be outside most of the day and unable to lay down anywhere so I wore a crop top that doubles as a bra. Less layers, less sweat. I added a flannel so I’d have something to sit on if I needed to or something to cover my shoulders so I wouldn’t burn. I of course was lathered in baby sunscreen but the sun is brutal. As for my hair, well I’ll let you see for yourself. Enjoy this picture of me and Jar Jar Binks.

Messy double buns with a red bandana. Oh, and my Star Wars Vans. I kept my makeup minimal, I used BB cream instead of foundation and neutral eyes with water proof mascara. The sun would give my cheeks a nice red tint so I skipped the blush and contoured my cheeks with bronze BB cream instead of my normal contour powder palate.

After the Fourth it was time to head to San Antonio for Anita’s sisters’ wedding. We were invited to the bachelorette party which was at a gay bar where we enjoyed a drag show and some Karaoke. That night I was a little extra, I don’t get the opportunity to go out much mostly because I prefer to stay in and play video games on a Friday night.

I will admit the leather skirt was not the best choice as I was sweating my non existent balls off, but damn did I feel fierce. I also wasn’t expecting the bar to be an outside bar. The shirt was a simple chiffon material that I got from a boutique some where, the same place the skirt was purchased. I wore my most comfortable (and my favourite) heels, did my full coverage makeup routine and added some touseled waves then hit the town! I didn’t wear any jewelry because after getting into that skirt and doing a full face of makeup I was lazy. But sometimes no jewelry can look classy too. Look at those roots, someone needs to get back to the beauty salon and get a touch up!! LOL.

The wedding outfit was my favourite. I don’t usually wear bohemian style clothing, but it was the perfect style for an outdoor summer wedding.

The skirt I purchased at that same boutique. It’s my absolute favourite! Or it was before it closed down, moved then got renamed. It still has some good pieces but it got a little too country chique for my tastes. The top was another gift I recently acquired, I was originally planning to wear it with some Levi cut offs but it ended up being a nice contrast to the skirt. I wore some nice jewelled sandals to complete the look, my hair was natural and pulled back into a half up fishtail braid and I went for a single gold choker necklace to complete the look. This coral dip hem skirt is one of my favourite pieces, I can style it so many different ways! I usually wear a loose white graphic tee with it to give it an edgy look, or a crop top for a casual summer look. I don’t do lace very often but I’m glad I did this weekend.

On Wednesday I’ll put up the post about my ‘Spoonie Emergency Kit’ along with some ideas about how to choose what sort of things you should put in yours.

I hope all of my US readers had a wonderful holiday and that my UK (and everywhere else) babes are enjoying their summers. I hear it’s pretty warm in England–stay cool and drink lots of water!!

Summer Favorites

Hello my beautiful WildeKats. It’s been a wild month for me, with some new symptoms popping up randomly and all the storms in my area I haven’t gotten much done creatively. But you all will be happy to know, I will be making an appearance at Crypticon in Kansas City as Black Canary ❤️

Now–I live in Texas unfortunately. And my family loves outdoor time. Being a spoonie and all I find it hard to participate in pool and lake days. But I am traveling to San Antonio for another wedding and we will be doing some activities on the river so I thought it would be appropriate to share some of my summer beauty necessities. I’ve talked about two of them before but they’re amazing products so you’ll see me rave about them again in the future.

Summer means sun, sun means UV rays and aside from sunscreen (I use baby sunscreen) you’re beauty essentials need to pack a punch, literally. I am cursed with dry skin, so I generally go for moisturiser with UV protection all year around. Skin cancer is no joke and my family is prone to it, on both sides. *collective sigh*

I usually go for PONDS but I sent my sister to the store for me and she brought me back an equate version of the same things, and honestly I see little difference. PONDS dry skin cream can be a little greasy, especially if you use it before you put makeup on. With the Equate version, it certainly looks like it would be greasy but it’s not. Once your skin absorbs the cream, that’s it. No grease, no shiny nose, no residue. I put it on in the mornings after I brush my teeth so it has ample time to absorb into my skin before a makeup routine. Which, during the summer I don’t use make up much.

If you read my ghost hunt post, then you’ve heard me talk about Evian Mineral Water Mist. I know most of you are like, “Kat, you actually buy water in a spray bottle?” Well, yes, I do. This isn’t just water it’s spring water on steroids. No joke. I don’t know what Evian puts in this stuff but it’s amazing. I’m actually from Phoenix so I’m used to battling UV rays on a completely different level. This stuff isn’t just useful in the summer when you’re by the beach and you can feel your skin tightening up around your nose because is parched. This mineral mist is great for all year round-it refreshens makeup, is great as a pre primer moisturiser and the PERFECT secret weapon for looking like a model when you’re walking off a 14 hour flight from London (or wherever). I have used this stuff for years, and I usually keep a small bottle in my purse and beach bag. You can’t get the small ones from Sephora and Ulta, but the 10oz I order from Amazon bc I’m a prime babe. You can also get it from Ulta, they keep the 10oz on the shelf.

Next is sea salt spray. Any kind will work, I like Not Your Mothers Beach Babe Texturizing Spray, but Bumble and Bumble is good and Nuetrogena has one from a reboot line. NYM has a great smell and I’m all about smell so naturally that’s the one I go for. It’s also readily available everywhere and I’m horrible lazy. You can spritz it on damp hair after the shower, a dip in the pool or the ocean. Or you can be like me and use it on air dried locks that have been in a loose braid all night. Like I said–I’m unbelievably lazy. This spray is my secret weapon. My hair is really fine so texture is nothing more than a day dream normally. Well not any more! Seriously, sea salt spray is the best. I’m actually gonna try the Nuetrogena one when I finish this bottle of NYM. I’ll be sure to post a reaction/review piece when I do.

If you’re cursed with dry skin like me, then all hopes of rocking those hot AF lip sticks is just that–a hope. That is, if you’re not equipped with the right chap stick. I don’t wear lipstick much because of my perpetual dry lips, but NIVEA is slowly changing that for me. They have so many great options, everything from flavoured Vaseline to minty lip plumpers. I personally stick to the original smoothing formula. I slather it on with my primer and let it sit till I’m ready for lipstick at the end of my makeup routine.

And last but certainly not least in my summer favourites list is sunglasses!!! Guys, I cannot stress how important a pair of sunglasses are for Spoonies. I don’t care what ails you, migraines, light sensitivity and sensory issues accompany just about every chronic illness to exist. I wear glasses so I order prescription sunglasses off line–pricey but I have to have them in order to drive. Sometimes I need them just to get through a work day bc the fluorescents are too much. But in the summer time when the sun is reflecting off the water, the glare is excruciating. If you don’t have a decent pair of UV refracting sunglasses you can kiss you’re relaxing day at the beach/lake/pool/river or wherever goodbye. I ordered the ones above from charming Charlie’s. These aren’t prescription but they’re just so damn cute! I only use my prescription ones to drive, so I have a plethora of trendy sunglasses to choose from for beach/lake days.

There you have it WildeKats! These are my spoonie summer must haves. There are plenty more items that I keep on hand but these are the most important for summer fun! Have an amazing summer my loves. Rest up and have lots of gentle fun!

Fibromyalgia Hack: The Long Line Bra

Hello my WildeKats,

Today we’re gonna talk about bra’s. Mostly because I just walked out of Victoria’s Secret with two amazing sports bras. Le sigh.

As a spoonie and a female, finding the perfect bra is detrimental to every day comfort. But as a spoonie, the bra issue is my most problematic because most days it hurts to wear one. Mostly I go braless if I can get away with it or I wear breast lift tape, which I spoke about in my last post. But sometimes a good bra is a necessity.

I prefer bralettes now a days but it’s so hard to find good affordable ones. Especially for little Oh 34DD me. I need something with a full coverage cup, adjustable straps but also something comfortable. I know, that’s next to impossible, right? Wrong. With the proper digging you will find the perfect product and you will buy it like it’s going out of style. Victorias Secret, Old Navy and Forever 21 are my not-so-Secret weapons when I’m looking for under garments and active clothing.

Today, however, I want to discuss the all powerful: Sports Bra. *cue dramatic music*

As someone with Fibromyalgia and RA I feel staying active and healthy is mucho importante. It’s hard, believe me–I know. I’m about to start an elimination diet and I’m silently crying inside. When it comes to sports bras I don’t rely on Nike or Addidas to get me through my yoga class. I only buy from Victoria’s Secret, Old Navy and occasionally Dick’s Sporting Goods if I can find a specific style.

The style I prefer looks like those weird Equestrian sports bras or crop tops. They’re called long line sports bras, they come in any style you can think of and they’re ah-mazing. I’m pretty chesty, so I prefer a bra that has thick straps to avoid the dreaded shoulder indentations. And because my main problem area is that area along your back where you’re bra connects in the back, I HAVE to have a bra that covers that area completely.

For me they act as a compression sock for you’re upper body, save the shoulders. They feel great, they’re unbelievably comfortable and you can wear them as a crop top. I strut around my apartment in them all the time, I even went to dinner in one.

Now of course they make them with normal straps if that’s what you’re into. They even have normal long line bras! For me, I need the thick straps and compression so this is what I buy. I find them more often in Victoria’s Secret but they’re everywhere. You just have to dig. I prefer not to order clothing online but you can definitely find these on Amazon.

Here’s the two I just bought on sale at VS. I couldn’t believe the hold they have, they more than passed the bounce test in the dressing room. I’m almost excited for tomorrow’s yoga session–almost. Still not looking forward to getting up at 6am though.

What’s your favourite sports bra? Comment below!

Better Late Than Never

I just realised that it’s Thursday and I didn’t post on Monday. I apologise. A lot has happened this week, I had some job interviews, an article I wrote was published in a local newspaper, my best friend came into town.  Needless to say, I’ve been a little busy. Also Fibrofog has hit me hard this week. But I looked fabulous so who cares right??

I found a million reasons to hate the way I looked in this picture. I guess that’s one of the reasons I wasn’t hurrying to write this post. I’ve been forced to do a lot of soul searching this month. Figuring out who I am, what kind of career I want, and most importantly–am I going to let my illness get the better of me.

I’ve been using my lack of employment and my illness[s] as an excuse not to make up my mind on a lot of things. I’ve enjoyed my impromptu vacation of sorts but I’m bored. And I lack the motivation to do something about it. I kept telling myself that I’m not physically capable of doing what I want. But that is a lie. I may not be right now but I will be.

The outfit above was purchased in my favourite city: London. Just last year I was prancing down Oxford Street without a care in the world. So much has changed but I am determined to make it back to the UK.

Everything was bought at H&M in London. Except my bag. I got that in the states recently. I don’t normally carry purses. In light of recent events, I have made some changes to my fashion go-to’s bc medications don’t fit in my collection of small hip bags.

Have a wonderful weekend my loves. And remember, love who you are ❤️

Sea Salt Sprays and the Andromeda Hoodie

Happy Memorial Day! I live in the states so it’s tradition to spend the weekend outdoors poolside and grilling if you can. Which is exactly what Anita and I did.

I’ve been having some trouble with my anxiety as of late. It’s been harder to control it naturally, my essential oils and calming teas just weren’t cutting it anymore. I talked to my doctor about it but she suggested a new medication that I had been trying to avoid. So my soon to be roommate invited me to spend Memorial Day weekend with her and her family for a much needed weekend getaway.

I was a little eerie about traveling especially after starting two new medications but I was equipped with my huzi designs infinity pillow, tummy friendly snacks and a brand new playlist courtesy of Spotify. We packed up after my sisters graduation and set out to Anita’s parents house where I was welcomed with open arms.

I napped in the hammock, played video and board games with her brothers, lounged in the hot tub and slept on this ah-mazing tempurpedic mattress topper that was so soft yet firm. It was pure bliss.

I spent the whole weekend in my expensive Italian bikini which unfortunately isnt pictured below for obvious reasons but I have been waiting for an opportunity to feature my favourite new hoodie. The sky was pretty cloudy so when we weren’t in the pool or the hot tub I sported my Andromeda Iniative zip up hoodie because I’m a huge nerd.

Also, since both their pool and hot tub is a salt water system, my hair was in heaven as well. I didn’t have to worry about my new blonde locks turning green from chlorine. I simply sprayed my favourite sea salt spray in and worked some surfers paste through the ends for some perfect carefree beach waves.

I really love this hoodie because it’s big and roomy but not so big as to where it’s in comfortable and frumpy. Unfortunately ThinkGeek doesn’t make hoodies any smaller than a medium (so I was told at Comic Con) but I’ve always liked my hoodies to be big on me. This one tends to slide down my shoulder so I look like an Ariana Grande wanna be but who cares. Anita’s family has two dogs and a cat so currently it’s covered in pet hair but I feel it adds a certain air of reality to the picture, no?

As for the Not Your Mothers line, when I was in Phoenix and L.A. I tried everything from Bumble and Bumble to Organix and I just couldn’t find a brand I liked. A friend of mine swears by this line so I tried it and I am never going back. I liked the other brands but I found I constantly had to keep adding salt spray to my hair to keep it wavy then my hair would have a light film of product on it.

The Not Your Mothers line has a ton of great products that are affordable and of great quality. I’ve since recommended it to my friends and they all love it as well. I have natural surfer waves thanks to my dad and I feel that these products bring out the natural waves beautifully.

I had a wonderful weekend with Anita’s family and I hope all of you enjoyed your holidays as well. ❤️

With love,

Spoonie Hacks: Breast Lift Tape

Hello WildeKats!

This week has been a tad crazy. I was out of town apartment hunting for Anita and I’s big move. I did some fun things with some friends, but didn’t find the time to snap a picture of my outfits. Since I’ve been back, I haven’t left my couch and we’ve been having a pajama party at Kat’s apartment. But there is a specific beauty product I’ve been dying to talk about.

Breast Lift Tape.

You heard right. Tape that lifts the boobs.

I love this product so much because as someone who struggles with Fibromyalgia, I have days where even a t-shirt hurts. But because I am female and cursed with a large chest–I have to wear a bra, right? WRONG. It took me a while but I finally gave up on the bra franchise. I’m not completely bra free, but I have found ways around the big boob-nip issue.

The brand Hollywood Fashion Secrets offers a series of products from bra extenders, double sided fashion tape, to nipple covers. They have pasties, reusable silicone covers and best of all breast lift tape. I came across the brand while in Vegas. My aunt had bought me a killer dress for a concert but it was backless. Not to mention that after the previous day of shopping, walking the strip and a four hour high stakes poker game I was beyond exhausted and in pain everywhere. My aunt has Hashimotos so she understood some what. She encouraged me to just ditch the bra and be free as a bird. But as self conscious as I was back then I just couldn’t do it. The dress was a halter dress so I went to the store to buy gaffers tape and just tape my boobs like a Kardashian. I thank God everyday for the employee who stopped me and steered me towards the beauty section that day because taping your boobs sucks. I had done it several times before for galas, proms, dances and formal conferences. Add allodynia to the mix and peeling the tape off afterwards is torture.

Now, having discovered this fashion secret, if I’m wearing an outfit that requires a bra but I’m not in the mood(or the physical condition) to wear one, breast lift tape is there to save the day. CAUTION: this tape is VERY sticky. It took me a few uses to get the hang of it but it’s worth the money you pay for them. I buy them in bulk from Amazon because a package at your local drugstore is $10 for 4 pairs. You can buy them at $7 a package with free shipping on orders over $25.

If you play your cards right one pair may even last you two or three days. Most days I can’t stand in the shower, so I bathe. The tape isn’t exactly water proof but as long as your not soaking in the bath they will stick. I wore a pair for almost a week once. I was incredibly sick, but still had class and honestly I was so used to just going braless I forgot I had them on. I don’t recommend wearing them for that long because taking them off can be awful.

Here’s a link to the tape on amazon and here’s a link to a video showing you how to use them.

I’m a 34D, so unless I become rich and get a reduction I will never be able to join the totally braless band wagon–but there are ways around every problem. This is the perfect–and safest–way to get a comfortable lifted look without the discomfort of a bra. I know girls who bind or tape their boobs every day. That is incredibly unhealthy and painful.

I hope you all have a fabulous week!

Jeggings, Army Green, and Evian Water Spritz

Hello WildeKats. Sorry this post is coming a bit latter in the day than usual, I sort of slept in…big time. But I needed it. See, Anita and I went on a ghost tour that turned into a ghost hunt. That wasn’t the plan–we were told that we would be going to different houses and buildings and getting a tour. I love history and Anita loves stories so we jumped at the opportunity. It was an over night tour, but we still weren’t prepared to be given hunting equipment and dropped off at a ‘haunted’ house with random strangers. We made some good friends, but let me tell you I was scared out of my mind!

I have another post going up on my blog tomorrow. I have some pictures of the places we went to and lots of stories to tell.

But for this post I’ll share my Ghost Hunting outfit and my Mother’s day outfit–since they were both in the same weekend and I didn’t sleep the whole weekend. Not a good idea for a spoonie, but I made sure to drink plenty of water.

The first outfit is what I wore on the ghost hunt that wasn’t supposed to be a hunt. It was cooler that night and I’m always cold so I chose a loose light tan shirt, jeggigns(did I spell this right?) and brown boots with an olive army jacket. Anything revolving around anything scary–I don’t want any exposed skin. I braided my natural hair back out of my face and set off on my surprise adventure.

The second picture is what I wore out with my family on mother’s day. Yes, I wore the same jeggings because when you get home at five A.M. and have to be at church at 10–you take a nap in your clothes, throw on a different shirt and go with it. My white van’s are my new favorite, and look at how dirty they got from walking around in those flowers. I was none to happy. As you can tell I really like neutral colors. My entire closet it mainly black, white, grey, tan, and olive. I don’t wear bright anything–occasionally I’ll wear a multi-color tank or a maroon shirt but I like black and white; simple, chic, goes with everything.

The green tank I got from a boutique in my home town years ago, it’s chiffon so it’s light and weather appropriate. And because I can’t be exposed to the sun, thanks to certain Rheum meds, I chose a cream cardigan I’m pretty sure I got from Khols two Christmases ago. Same makeup, previously braided hair went in a low pony tail, I spritzed some Evian Mineral water spray over my make up, downed a cup of coffee and went on about my day. Here’s a link to the Evian Mineral Spray–it’s one of my spring/summer must haves.

I don’t normally wear makeup two days in a row as it’s very bad for your skin. The Evian spray hydrated my foundation enough so that I wouldn’t have the dreaded cake face while I was out with family. Such makeup hacks are usually reserved for sleepless weekends in Vegas and overnight flights. The Evian Mist is great for pool days, beach days or summer in general. I discovered it during my summer stay in Phoenix. It’s a bit pricey but you can find it online for cheap. I recommend splurging on the 10 oz because the smaller bottles only have 1-2 ounces and you pay at least five bucks for each. I got a 10 oz from for around 15 with shipping and handling but there are cheaper options. I have a good relationship with so that’s my go to if Sephora or Ulta are too pricey.

Have a good week WileKat’s!
